RAFCV221: CHEQUE SIGNED BY THE LATE GEORGE CARON We have a small number of personal cheques signed in the hand of the late George Caron - Tail Gunner of the Enola Gay B-29 Superfortress bomber that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan - ending WWII. Seated in the rear of the B-29, he was the first to see the mushroom cloud. Caron had been given a camera at the last moment and snapped a roll of photographs as the mushroom cloud ascended. His photographs of the explosion were printed on millions of leaflets that were dropped over Japan the next day.
